The Relaxation for Better Breathing audio CD was developed for adults with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases (COPD) such as Emphysema, Chronic Bronchitis and Chronic Asthma. The CD has been used as part of a Rehabilitation Program for individuals with COPD.

COPD is a disease which effects millions of people worldwide. Relaxation is one of the methods of dealing with the anxiety and nervousness which often accompanies COPD. The relaxation exercise combines calming music with progressive muscle relaxation, controlled breathing and mental imagery to help achieve a relaxed state of body and mind. The relaxation exercise is useful for dealing with everyday stress, calming anxiety or enhancing sleep.

The disc also includes instructions for breathing techniques which utilize the respiratory muscles more efficiently to reduce the work of breathing and techniques which can help shortness-of-breath on exertion.

Relaxation for Better Breathing was developed by Nancy L. Nicholson, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist working in a Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program. She is a former Registered Nurse with interests in health psychology and behavioral medicine. She teaches relaxation and breathing techniques as part of a course on anxiety and stress management.
